Workplace and Insurance Services

Kate has 25 years' experience specialising in insurance litigation and workplace injury claims, acting for WorkSafe Victoria, its insurance agents and a number of self-insurers in Victoria.  She provides advice in relation to statutory benefits, common law claims in negligence, appeals and judicial review proceedings.  

Kate has acted for WorkSafe Victoria, its authorised insurers and employers and self-insurers in defending matters at all levels of the Victorian Courts including the Court of Appeal, Supreme, County and Magistrates Court.  

Kate also provides ongoing education and training to self-insurer clients in relation to changes to the law within the jurisdiction and major developments which impact on their businesses. Her longstanding relationship with WorkSafe Victoria has seen Kate actively involved in strategic working groups and development programs. 

Kate is highly regarded for her skill in defending complex and difficult claims and takes a pro-active and pragmatic approach to achieving resolution of these matters. She has developed strong relationships with her clients, opponents, members of the Victorian Bar and other stakeholders which has assisted in achieving excellent outcomes.   

Kate  is well known for her strong forensic and technical skills, her high level of legal analysis and thorough approach to preparation which has resulted in achieving many successful outcomes in complex and strategically sensitive claims.

Kate is also a member of the Litigation Lawyers - Workers Compensation Committee of the Law Institute of Victoria.

Extensive court experience

Acted for the WorkSafeVictoria, its authorised insurers and employers in defending matters under the Accident Compensation Act before the Court of Appeal, Supreme, County, and Magistrates Courts.

Legal panel secondment

Selected by WorkSafeVictoria's Dispute Management Division for its first ever external secondment from its legal panel. Assisted in the management of the legal panel in its conduct of both statutory benefits and common law damages litigation on behalf of the authority.
